Latest News From the Friends of North Buffalo Library
Dear Folks, Grace has written a very informative and
helpful report and set of "to do" tasks for NB GNPA and Friends of NB Library. Please review her email below.
Sincerely, Cassie Wilson cell phone (716) 445-7661

for space for the library in the plaza next to Kmart is > supposedly " stuck in the Mayors' office"
according to Cassie > Wilson, who is part of the NB Planning Group. Library Services for > NB are in the
Library budget for Jan, 2009 but a lease has to be put > in place. > What needs to be done at this point
per this committee is to pressure > the councilmen and the mayor's office. Some believe that there must >
be better spots out there to put the library on a short term basis > but this was the cheapest option. The Benderson
plaza on Delaware > next to Tim Hortons was the first choice of the library but at $20,000/ > month price
tag, it was too expensive. The space between the > Billlards Room and the Quest lab was the cheapest and has lots
of > parking because of the Kmart lot. A new library for the No. Buffalo > area would not be able to be
built for 5- 10 years if at all in > today's economic climate. Remember that the library system works by > having the cities, towns and villages provide the physical plant for > the library while the county provides
personnel and books and > materials. In the last few years , the Kensington, Fairfield and No. > Park branches
have been closed for numerous reasons and as of Oct 1, > No Buffalo has been without library services. The library
is an > important component of any community and especially so in the 21st > century to provide a place
where computers are available to all and > books , video and audio can be used by any library member. > > The group is asking all those concerned with the lack of library > services in NB to contact their legislator
and the mayor for a > resolution. Per Bridget Quinn, Director of the Buffalo and Erie County > Library,
No Buffalo had one of the highest user circulation counts in > the system.. Without a widespread effort, things just
don't get > done. Please ask your fellow No. Buffalo friends and relatives to > also raise their voices! > > The Kenmore Branch is going to be closed at sometime in the future as > Tonawanda wants to build
a bigger library near Sheridan Dr. > > > Councilman LoCurto's : mlocurto@city-bufffalo.com > Mayor Brown : Mayorbrownwebmail@ch.ci.buffalo.ny.us
Thank you to the students
of Nichols School for cleaning up the street! The project was a great effort for US COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY.
